Soccer World Cup: 500 days to go

How long ago since that day we celebrated the news of our country hosting the soccer world cup in 2010?

The day was magic, but at the same time 2010 seemed like a life time away. Now it’s 500 days to go.

Making it feel even closer, is the upcoming Confederations Cup later this year. Our dress rehearsal for 2010.

No one knows how well Bafana Bafana are going to do. Whether or not they do well, we will still be supporting all the teams…except England in my case.

Bidorbuy and Private Property Auctions are hosting an auction on 4 February 2009 starting at 8.00am and ending 10.00pm on the same day.

The auction is for a property – a bachelors Apartment in Noordwyk, Gauteng – REFNO#G9221. Bidding starts at R1.00, with no reserve.

My guess is that the property will sell for R375000.00.

Cricket: SA wins One Day Series as Well

Awesome, awesome cricket from South Africa’s cricket team.

To go to Australia and win the tests was unbelievable, but the one dayers as well? It was almost too much to ask!

Everyone came to the party – Gibbs, Kallis, Amla, Mckenzie, Steyn, De Villiers, Ntini, Botha…the list goes on.

In this last game they comprehensively outplayed the Aussies in each and every aspect of the game. 38.1 overs is a real hiding!

The South Africans will come home with confidence, one ingredient that was missing over the last few years. This victory in Australia came at the right time.

The team is now settled with the core group of players in both the tests and one day matches.

I would ask: where to now for the Aussies, but I really don’t care. After years of coming a distant second, we deserve to bask a little in a well deserved victory.

Mandela’s cousin’s dog handler joins COPE

The weekend’s news bulletins – radio, tv, internet, print media – all proclaimed with much excitement that Steve Biko’s sister had joined the Congress of the People (COPE).

And who is that and why should we care??? You might ask if you were not at all bowing before the COPE altar.

Before this weekend, I had no idea that Steve Biko even had a sister.

Even if she was an important or famous member of society, why would anyone care that one person joined a political party?

Of course now that the trickle of celebrities and former ANC members have slowed down, COPE is scraping the bottom of the barrel to come up with new famous members.

What’s next? Mandela’s cousin’s dog handler joins COPE?

Rugby: Newlands Crowd Boos Luke Watson

As a lifelong Western Province supporter as well as a Stormers fan, I am really ashamed of the Newlands crowd booing anyone, much less a player who was served the province well over the last few years.

What is it about intolerance in this country?

So Luke Watson doesn’t agree with the majority of the rugby supporting nation many of whom thought nothing of voting the National Party in time after time (but won’t admit it!).

Wouldn’t it be boring as hell if everyone felt and acted in the same way?

Luke Watson should be commended for viewing his opinion publicly.  Most people will only give their opinion publicly when they have numbers- as the Newlands crowd proved on Saturday.

As Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus said in an article on iol.co.za:

” If you are a real supporter, you will support the team and their decisions.”

and

“I can tell you of a few people who have done much more wrong – if he did anything wrong – and they are playing now and are in dominant positions in SA Rugby. They are not getting booed when they are on TV and on the park. So we are happy with the way the team is performing, all 26 of them.”
