New ANC Election Advertisement

At about 8.00pm tonight, I channel hopped to SABC 1 while waiting for a movie to start and lo and behold there was the ANC election advert.

This is the first SA election where political ads are permitted.

I am a bit sceptical about political advertising on tv and for the most part will just change the channel when other parties do their bit of advertising Democratic Alliance, Freedom Front, etc.

So I guess all the parties will be preaching to their own party choirs.

I liked the ANC advert, but then I am an ANC supporter.

It shows on old man in a rural area speaking in Zulu (I think).  The English translation appears on the screen as well.

He talks about being proud to have voted for Nelson Mandela.  He mentions that the ANC built houses, brought electricity and water and built schools in his area.

Near the end he gets up and points a stick at the camera saying: even though lots have been done, lots still need to be done, but he is voting ANC in appreciation for what he has now.

Then the screen changes to Jacob Zuma who asks voters to vote for the ANC.  This part I could have done without. I pretty much tuned out at this point.

Although I feel good about the ANC in general, whenever I’m reminded of that man Zuma, I think of all the things I’m writing on my ballot in lieu of a cross next to his face!

Many ANC supporters who don’t like Zuma just don’t need to be reminded constantly that he will be the presidential candidate.

We support the ANC and NOT any individual!

Rihana and Chris Brown Reunited?

Heaven help us all!  Rihana has reportedly taken back Chris Brown after he allegedly assaulted her about three weeks ago.

He apparently called her up to wish her a happy 21st birthday and now they’re shacked up in one of Puffy’s houses!

Is that woman crazy or just lacking in self esteem?  It just shows having it all – youth, looks, money and fame – doesn’t mean a damn thing in this world.

According to friends they got back together because they ‘care for each other’.

However, when a man lifts his hands to you even once, that should be one time too many.

Damn, Rihana, love yourself first!

Weird auction: Arabic – learn while you fly

One of my favourite things to do, is to look at online auctions and My favourite place to do so is Bidorbuy.

Most of the items are pretty normal every day goodies, but sometimes something sticks out like a sore thumb. Pardon the cliche.

Whether this is a gag gift type of thing, or a real serious item is hard to tell. But judge for yourself.

The item is an audio book called ‘Learn Arabic While You Fly’. According to the item listing, you can listen to this book on your iPod or MP3 player.

It further says that you will learn to get to your hotel, ask for directions around town and make a good impression.

All I know is that you won’t make it to your destination if you learn Arabic out loud on that plane.

If you survive the passengers and crew’s wrath, your final destination will be Guantenamo Bay, my friend!

Just saying.

The Daniel Diet

The Daniel diet is also known as the Daniel fast and  is one of the more unusual diets out there.  This one has religious connotations.

It is based on the story of Daniel – he of the lion’s den –  in the Bible.

Daniel and his three friends were captured and held prisoner.

While incarcerated they rejected the food given to them by the King of Babylon, believing that the food was originally offered to the gods and eating it would mean defiling themselves in the eyes of their God - the God of Israel.

After 10 days they turned out to be healthier than the other prisoners who ate the defiled food and were given high positions in the King’s court.

And so the Daniel diet made it to the modern world many many centuries later.

The fast is extended for 10 days and is based on the vegan way of eating – consisting of vegetables and fruit.

Other food include nuts and seeds, brown rice, oats and barley. Legumes such as dried beans, peas and lentils are a part of this diet as well.

Drinks include 100% pure fruit juice and water.

Foods to exclude are meat, white rice, white flour, fried foods, caffeine, alcohol, carbonated drinks, refined sugar or sugar substitutes, margarine, shortening, fats, foods with preservatives or additives, etc.

This fast/diet becomes very popular during Lent for Christians of the Catholic and Anglican churches.

Pisces Malema and Zille: Two Peas in a Pod

While reading the latest war of words between Helen Zille and Julius Malema, I detected a similarity in their manner.

Both of them have a way about them that rubs up (some) people the wrong way, so I just knew they shared a star sign – and sure enough they are both Pisces.

Helen Zille was born in Johannesburg on 9 March 1951 and Julius Malema was born in Sheshego, Limpopo on 3 March 1981!   Their age difference is almost exactly 30 years – to the day!

According to Pisces.com, Pisces are sensitive, humane and often idealistic. People born under this sign react emotionally to everything making them compassionate and sensitive to those around them.

Maybe deep down it applies to those two politicians.  We haven’t yet seen signs.

In the past Malema referred to Zille as racist, colonialist and imperialist, et al and in return Helen called Julius  a product of a crony system, also rude and disgusting  amongst a whole host of other names.

Well now we know why - two are similar in nature because they were born under the rather peace loving Pisces sign.

There is poetic justice after all for South Africans who have to put up with those two Pisces’ and their loud mouths.
