DA’s Television Advertisement

There I was – fortunately after I  already had supper - chilling on the couch with my computer while listening to e-tv news on in the background.

After the sports news and just before the weather report, I was alerted by a few seconds of silence, looked up at the tv and saw the disclaimer that precedes political adverting.

To the tune of Israel Kamakawiwo`ole reggae version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow images of people appeared.  It all ended with a large South African flag across the screen and vote DA.

There were some captions on the screen every time a new image was shown, none of which I remember.  As I said with the ANC advert this one also seems to be aimed at supporters.

Then again, the DA has zero chance of getting my vote.

There was no Helen Zille (mercifully) nor any references to other parties.

Over all the advert was slick and well produced and I was surprised that it wasn’t in the least bit offensive, nor did it cause any reaction – neither good nor bad.

I expected the advertisments (from all parties) to be more in line with what the US candidates dish out.  Critical of the opposition, attacking, telling lies, etc.

Instead both the ANC and DA adverts were positive.
