Cricket: Proteas, A Dressing Room Divided
In two weeks everything’s changed. South Africa’s cricket team went from world beaters to wimps.
And I’m not even talking about losing two test matches. Their off the field selection antics is more of a embarrasment than the rubbish cricket they played.
As if that wasn’t enough, now we have the customary implosion that will doubtlessly grow into a race issue.
Because…
They can’t accept that the selectors made a mistake with team selection and the team played badly, and move on?
Instead Neil Mckenzie was once again dropped, even though if he was black he would have been dropped eons ago.
Ashwell Prince, official vice-captain, was brought back into the fold – out of batting order, mind you - as stand in captain and opening batsman for injured captain Graeme Smith.
Within 24 hours Prince was dropped as captain, no doubt due to certain players in the team moaning (and we won’t name names, Jacques Kallis).
Jacques Kallis official team girl was made captain – probably after throwing his toys out of the cot once more. I can’t believe that our once premier batsman can act like a spoilt child like he does when he doesn’t get his way.
In all likelihood certain members in the team are upset that Neil Mckenzie was dropped and his lingerie modelling wife won’t be in attendance at Newlands next week.
It would have been really nice if Gerald Majola could grow a pair and act as CEO of Cricket SA this time. Once again he is glossing over some serious rifts in the dressing room and it’s ALL race related AGAIN!
An at best mediocre white player gets dropped and the dressing room goes crazy. A tried and tested mentally tough black player gets dropped and not a word from Kallis and co.
The win in Australia can never be taken away. It happened, it was amazing, but all it took was two bad weeks and the cat fights are on again.
No comment from Cricket SA, of course.
