Vodacom Maklik, You say?
I’m not sure if my mother saw the latest Vodacom “maklik” marketing campaign or not but she sent me an sms over the weekend asking how she can get the internet on her computer – using her cellphone.
The advert has a foreigner – a Borat looking and sounding stranger – landing at the airport, saying he came to fetch the internet.
He asks various people in South Africa how to get the internet.
Everyone keeps telling him it’s “maklik”.
It’s maklik if you already know how.
The marketing campaign comprises of an advert that says there are 3 ways to connect wirelessly to the internet with Vodacom
- On your phone
- With a USB Cable
- With a data modem
I’ve told my mother many times that she has to have a phone with 3G and a USB cable to connect to her computer. But I set up a her phone to get e-mails so she’s happy for now.
Damn Vodacom! It’s not soooo maklik! It’s not as if family members are going to be asking Vodacom for help to set them up.
They’ll probably try to charge you R50 just for the settings when you walk into the 3G store, like tried to do with me in Cavenish Square the other day.
