Give us More 100% Julius

Together with Helen Zille, Julius Malema is one of the more interesting, yet polarising forces in the country.

Those two Pisceans with Jacob Zuma should be a satirist’s dream.

Yet we have that ridiculous attempt at satire at 9.00pm on a Sunday nights on SABC 3, which is neither biting, nor funny.

Nando’s have proven that satire can be done well in this country – and can be found funny by supporters and non-supporters, if not the politician himself.

The difference between Nando’s 100% Julius advert and Zapiro’s Jacob Zuma cartoons, is that Nando’s doesn’t seem to have an agenda, which if you’ve heard Jonathan Shapiro on Capetalk in the last few days, you know he loathes Zuma.

He said it, so it’s even an interpretation.

Zapiro can do as he pleases – but at the same time we need real satire where the mickey is taken out of politicians in general, the way the Americans like Jon Stewart and Saturday Night Live do.

Pieter Dirk Uys and Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout comes closest…but we also need different perspectives.

Well done to Nando’s  – if comedians can’t give us decent satirical comedy, then let fast food restaurants do it.
