There can be Two Idols? WTF?

Written on May 8, 2009 – 2:11 pm | by Abigail Abrahams |

According to IOL.co.za, Idols have declared both Sasha-Lee Davids and Jason Hartman as Idols winners.

To make matters worse Mnet is spinning this to seem like Idols was a massive success, claiming on their website that this is a World First for Idols!

What a load of rubbish!

A World First Disgrace for Idols, more like it!

If  people could vote 100 times per sim card for 1 person, how is that a true reflection of succesful anything?

And if Mnet’s communications partners couldn’t handle the load, how is that a success?

It leaves as bad a taste as when Tokyo Sexwale couldn’t decide on a winner in South Africa’s one and only season of The Apprenctice and declared both finalists as winners.

Mnet have taken any credibility Idols might have had and thrown in out the door.

How can we ever believe another vote count after this?

Why did they have to close their vote lines so late on Sunday evening? Not even an hour before results were made public.

South Africa’s cellphone networks – growth and all – have notoriously been bad about sending SMSes on time.

If Jason won the most votes, he deserves to be named the one and only Idol.  The same is true for Sasha Lee.

On 5fm this morning, Gareth Cliff mentioned that Jason was willing to share the title, which is very sweet and generous of him.

However, this was a contest which says there can be only 1 Idol per season.

Please Mnet, name the winner of the most votes as the Idol, as is the norm. Jason won 1.3 million votes and Sasha Lee 1.1 million. Where is the tie?

People spent their (or their parents) hard earned money to vote for their Idol, not for a total mess that will forever be linked to SA Idols.

Absolute disgrace. Who says Mnet can choose the winners. They told us numerous times that we choose the winner, vote for the winner, there can only be one winner.

I agree, Jason should have been named the Idol by MNet. It’s not Sasha-Lee’s responsibility though.

    Agie,
Jason should have been named the winner – by Idols – as he received the most votes. Putting that responsibility on Sasha-lee is just plain wrong.

It’s been decided by MNet that they would share the title, he should shut up and accept the shared title and prizes and move on, cause they’re not going to change it again.

Idols is over for 2009. Only a few people still care.
