Prepaid Cellphone Users Have to Register Simcard

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

From 1 July all cellphone users in South Africa will have to register their simcards over the next 18 months in accordance with new legislation.

When you purchase a new simcard, you will have to pitch up with a proof of residence and ID document at the purchase point, as with the FICA banking requirements.

This is said to be a way to curb crime.

Oh really? As if criminals are stupid enough to to arrive with ID and address in hand.

They will just steal our sims and continue doing what they’re doing.

Here’s the kicker: if you live in an informal housing residence, then you can go to your nearest police station to get an affidavit noting this fact.

Tourists wont be excluded from the madness.

They will have to show their passports and probably hotel or other address where they’re staying.

What next!

Rick Astley in False Death Rumour

My colleague just came into my office asking if I heard that Rick Astley is also dead.

My first reaction was…did you Google it to find out the truth?

Being the Google junkie that I am, I Googled it and found that it another of those internet rumours that sometimes do the rounds.

After hearing the hoax about Jeff Goldblum’s death in New Zealand, I knew to first fact check before spreading false rumours.

So for anyone who wants to know, as of this hour Rick Astley is alive and well, despite rumours to the contrary.

Vodacom Internet – Maklik and Slow!

Vodacom have been doing some of the best advertisements on tv, advertising their internet data bundles.

The Single Ladies advert in particular received lots of praise and giggles from viewers and the Vodacom is Maklik adverts, though not as popular was at least noticeable.

Unlike MTN’s adverts which is pretty much unmemorable. Don’t even talk about Cell C for yourself!

Vodacom of course advertised free internet which actually means purchase bundles and receive 25mb free data.

Gauging by the speed of Vodacom’s internet these days, one can only believe their marketing campaign to be extremely successful.

Try logging onto the internet at any time after hours, especially weekends and sit and watch your web pages load at snail’s pace.

As one who’s been using Vodacom internet for quite a while, it’s become more and more frustrating when I need to connect immediately but instead have to watch the connecting icon time out.

That makes Vodacom internet both maklik and very very slow!

What’s Going With SARU and Peter De Villiers?

The South African Rugby Union makes me truly sick with their internal politics.

What did Peter de Villiers do wrong other than say he was voting ANC and defending his players?

One would think the man had committed treason the way SARU carries on.

Let him coach the Springboks and either get someone else to deal with the media or leave him alone.

His team is winning, isn’t it?

They are doing the exact same thing they did with two other winning coaches – Nick Mallet and World Cup winning coach Jake White.

For no reason whatsoever someone in SARU gets a bee in their bonnet and next thing you know, the coach is out the door.

It’s like someone in SARU doesn’t want the Springboks to succeed.

And Oregan Hoskins is a fool – if nothing else. He is pretty much like Cricket SA’s own window dressing CEO Gerald Majola. Useless!

Everyone knew of Peter de Villiers’ colourful ways before he was employed as Springbok coach.

He was interviewed by a panel who must have heard the way he speaks. And the majority of people on that panel must have agreed to employ him.

So what’s the problem now?

Does SARU want their coaches to be puppets without their own opinions?

American’s Next Top Model Final

Finally the Jade show comes to an end tonight.

My teeth hurt every time Jade opens her mouth.

Danielle’s accent really grates and Joanie looks exactly like Twiggy. The way the ex-model looks now.

Between the three Danielle is by far the most likely to be ANTM!

The girls had to do an advert for Covergirl.

Fortunately we werent subjected to those ads in South Africa.

Afterwards the girls had their picture taken.

And then it was judging time.

Again Danielle’s accent was criticised.

Joanie’s picture was loved by the judges, though I didnt see it.

I thought Danielle’s picture was best by far. So was her ad.

It came as no surprise that Jade was eliminated next.

Please let us never be subjected to that woman in any shape or form ever again.

But as Jade said she’ll be hard to forget.

The gods help us all!

So we were left with the final two – Joanie and Danielle. And the final fashion show.

The final runway was a long platform between multiple temples.

Joanie looked pretty ordinary in her first walk and improved slightly on the second trip.

Danielle looked like a model. She truly stood out.

This one is a no brainer.

And so it was, although the judges said it was a tough decision.

Danielle was chosen as this cycle’s Next Top Model.
