SABC is Broadcasting ICC World T20

Written on June 7, 2009 – 10:05 am | by Glass Pearl |

Imagine my surprise when I switched the tv on to watch the Take Home Chef on Saturday to find instead an ICC World T20 game.

While it was the match played on Friday night between England and the Netherlands, it was still a pleasant surprise.

After the game I expected to find some mention of future matches but nothing was said.

Then Saturday evening while channel hopping I was mystified to find the 7 O’clock news on SABC 3 on at 6.30pm!  At first I checked the clocks to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind.

Lo and behold a live game appeared at 7.00pm! India vs Bangladesh!

Still no mention from the extremely irritating host of what we can expect to see of the World T20 matches.

Doubtlessly we will see South Africa’s match against Scotland at 2.30pm today!

Someone during all the mayhem of recent weeks at SABC probably forgot they got sponsorship from Standard Bank and the rights to broadcast the cricket?

Whatever the reason, cricket fans are not complaining!

Just sat down to watch Survivor and to my immense disappointment I was subjected to a whole evening of cricket.
I don’t think it would have been such a big issue for me if the change in programme schedule had been advertised effectively. Was it even advertised? Clearly it was a last minute decision as none of the weekly magazines carry the schedule change! Seriously inconvenient, but what do you expect from the national broadcaster.

Not a cricket watcher, I feel your pain. Although I’m a cricket fan, nothing must come in the way of Survivor. NOTHING! What a disappointment last night!

No wonder the SABC has no money – they don’ t deserve any!
No scheduling ever gets correctly published, no matter what you like to watch your chances are nil to see it when advertised. No one says a word – they just change it.
Tune in to see Days of our LIves and you get cricket. You tune in to see the news – and its over. You tune in to see Isidingo and it’s more cricket. No strapline as to when you may expect to find the programmes again, or why they keep using SABC 3 to broadcast the cricket?

No other station in the world expects its viewers to pay for programming they cannot find, and advertisers to fill slots which do not appear in programmes aimed at the correct target market.
Sell the damn channels to people who know what they are doing!

Does the executives at e-tv have any imagination? We have been subjected to hours and hours of mindless ‘wrestling.’ Throughout the week we have so-called wrestling programs and then it is crowned with an entire Sunday afternoon of…you guess it:”wrestling.” Are they getting these programs for free? They need to stop buying their programs at the rubbish dump of American degenerate, outdated programs. Surely there are better programs out there.

    cricket fan,

I get what you’re saying, but what upset people most was the fact that SABC3 did not schedule the cricket, nor did they inform viewers when the schedule changed.

Anyway, I’m certainly enjoying the cricket thanks to SABC, so no complaints other than no Survivor last week.

I normally miss Days because I’m at work. On Monday & Tuesday this week I thought I could finally see what’s been happening, and waited patiently with the TV on mute only to be rewarded with cricket. AARGH. I know Days is not real, mindless, occasionally even retarded, but why do they have to move things around without even apologising? Long ago I was indifferent to cricket and now I hate it because this always happens and it’s almost as bad as being subjected to golf. What makes sport more important than everything else? The only people it affects are the people who choose to support it and get suicidal when some bunch of men ‘loses’ some game against some other bunch of men. Sure it creates jobs, opportunities, etc but so do many other programs & many other things. Can’t SABC just have a separate sport channel…? Most of you would kiss them for it.

    time for a rant,
I know exactly how you feel even though I’m one of those cricket fans!

SABC really pissed me off when they chose to show a delayed cricket match instead of Survivor last week.

They really should get a sports channel and should only let people with tv licenses have access to it or even charge a small revenue for it, so they can earn some extra money to get us quality programming!

Not everyone can afford the absurd M-net & DStv rates.
A pleasant surprise to see T20 world cup broadcast when played abroad.
And my consideration for the non-sport viewers.

Sadly, after the Proteas have advanced so far, it appears that the match today SA v PAK will NOT be screened – check out the SABC 3 schedule – next T20 match covered: Final, 21Jun

    Frustrating? an absolute mind boggle!

In fact, still I’m clueless to who’s broadcasting tonight’s game.
Yes, DStv no doubt, and Radio 2000?
    Is that it? …

“Now go pay your TV licence, you ungrateful little…”

I disagree to all who does not want cricket to be broadcast. They only show limited amount of cricket on sabc and yet these people are complaining they cant watch their normal programmes. Sabc do not televise quality sports anymore, they only broadcast local soccer. They dont even televise a single rugby game.We pay to watch sports and yet they dont broadcast them. We must buy dstv to watch quality sports, and where must get the money to pay for dstv?

Please televise more cricket, tennis, rugby, formula 1. Not a single rugby and tennis game and not a single formula 1 race televise on sabc. They are showing to much local soccer. Almost everday there is either a soccer match or a soccer programme. Please we are getting sick of one sport domination. Saturdays and Sundays sport on sabc 1 is just soccer. please its disgusting, this is discrimation. what happen to the days when they televised wimbeldon, formula 1, local cricket and rugby.
