South African Men’s Shame

Written on June 21, 2009 – 9:22 pm | by Glass Pearl |

Both local and international media are reporting on a survey that revealed 1 in 4 South African men admitted to having raped a woman.

That’s 1 in 4 that actually admitted to raping a woman.

What about those who think they’re entitled to having sex with their partners without consent and those who don’t think they’re doing anything wrong?

Time.com writes about these South African men who admitted to raping women and found absolutely nothing wrong with their horrendous deeds.

As if South Africa doesn’t already have a bad reputation for criminal behaviour.

Together with recent reports of child rapes, murders and abductions, the shame on South African grows.

And it’s mostly, but not exclusively,  black men taking the brunt of the blame.

This on the day when US President Barack Obama asked men to be better fathers.

There’s a something to strive for.

Obviously there are many men who wouldn’t even think being disrespectful to a woman.

All South African men now have the added burden of being tarnished with the same brush as those admitted rapists.
