In Search of An Mp3 Player

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

It’s my own fault I’m looking for an Mp3 player.mp3 player

A while ago I received an Apple Ipod 2GB as a gift, but because I wasn’t in need of one at the time, put it on auction in Bidorbuy’s Electronic Category.

I sold it for R1000!

Mind you, I probably wouldn’t get that amount these days for a 2GB iPod – or so I keep telling myself.

What can I say, I’m addicted to online auctions!

Now I’m in the market for an MP3 player to use while getting in shape for the summer and guess where I’ll be heading to first, to compare prices?

A clue?

I’m not looking for anything extravagant or overly expensive because I will be hitting the road to train for a few 10km races later in the year and I don’t want to live in fear of losing an expensive MP3 player.

And chances are, I will!

So far I’ve seen a 2GB mini MP3 player for R149, including shipping. And the seller is verified – which means the chances are increased that it is a genuine sale.

But what is the point of just buying the first MP3 player that looks good?  No self-respecting auction junky would do such a thing!

I will look around Bidorbuy’s Electronic Category, especially their R1.00 Crazy Auctions, and hope I find a player at an even better price.

If not, I know where to find one at a good price.

Semenya Saga Continues

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

One would have hoped that by now sanity would have prevailed.  But unfortunately that is not the case at all.

Every politician and quack has come out of the woodworks to offer an opinion.  None of which is helping poor Caster Semenya.

Unless you count the R60 000 or so that the ANCYL has bestowed on her…the apparently broke ANCYL.

And what should have been a low key return, the girl’s sexuality is being both questioned and tested, has turned out into a circus.

The media – worldwide – have taken to interviewing medical practitioners in every medical field willing to give an opinion. Oh and are they ever willing!

Politicians – including this country’s president – have weighed in on the saga.  What they know about the situation could probably be written on a pin’s head.

Yet there they were at Oliver Tambo International, getting all fired up, calling the IAAF racists and generally saying nothing important.

Whether they like it or not, the IAAF were well within their rights to question Semenya’s gender.  She does after all looks and speaks like a male.

How they did it is up for debate…the fact that this very private matter was leaked to the media is inexcusable.

The fact that Athletics South Africa knew that Semenya’s testosterone levels were three times that considered within range for a ‘normal’ female athlete makes one think that they doth protest too much.

ASA put Semenya on the world stage to be ridiculed.  They should take the biggest amount of blame for this attention the 18 year old Semenya was placed under.

Meanwhile there is Caster Semenya, an 18 year old girl who may or may not have a career in athletics.

In the end she won’t even matter – she’ll fade off stage and the politicians and media will move onto their own agendas.

Another Robbery in Kenilworth Centre!

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

For the second time in a few weeks a robbery has taken place at a jewellery store in Kenilworth Centre – a worrying new development as it hits very close to home.  (My home is a few hundred metres away from KC!)

And I, as well as people close to me frequent KC on a regular – almost daily – basis.

The same as last time, the robbers entered the store as prospective buyers and then held up the shop assistants.

This time they escaped with a hired car!

Whether they hired the car (highly unlikely!) or stole it has not yet been established.

The location and layout of Kenilworth Centre makes it hard to imagine how robbers manage to escape so easily.  The area usually has a large amount of slow moving traffic and there’s a set of traffic lights that takes forever to turn green.

What more, the place is usually teeming with security guards.

Not that security would phase would-be robbers.  They world likely just shoot wildly at shoppers if cornered by security.

With summer holidays approaching, we can only hope police and Kenilworth Centre finds a way to manage  this shocking new trend.

7de Laan Teasers for September 2009 – A pregnancy?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

September in the Laan continues with Errol and Janine’s up and down relationship. At least Errol isn’t going off the deep end with his girlfriend.

She and her BFF Yvonne seem to be partying up a storm. Drugs even?

Neville will spend the month trying to propose to Charmaine. They decide to get married at the magistrate’s court. But you know how the people on the Laan are. An impromptu wedding is likely in the works.

Herman gets jealous of the attention Dawid Greeff bestows on Emma. And Dawid finds out about Gita’s lies that made him agree to pursue Emma.

He decides to drop the plan.

Could this mean a triangle between Herman, Emma and Dawid. Will Emma really fall for Dawid?

Gita meanwhile rains on Tim and Linda’s parade by telling Zinzi a secret – about her being pregnant.

Tim is thrown when he finds out, but doesn’t tell Linda. Linda finds out via the grapevine and asks Xander to represent her in a quick divorce.

Not that Tim blindly believes Gita’s story. In fact he tells her that he doesn’t.

Gita is rushed to hospital for what the Laan’s rumour mill believes to be a miscarriage.

Lobola negotiations continues for Alice and Mandla – the whole freaking month!

No Paula yet in September!
