2010: The Year Ahead for Aries

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I bought the first January 2010 issue of You magazine.

Their astrologist Petra du Preez predicted the year for the 12 astrological star signs.

Whether you believe in it or not (not sure if I do or not), it makes for entertaining reading.

We’ll take a look back in a year and see how much was true.
Aries
“Be hopeful about the future – there’s much to look forward to. Make a fresh start with your career and be more independent. Be realistic about love and relationships.

Life
2010 could turn out to be better than expected.
This is due to life speeding up for you between June and mid-September, when an extra-ordinary amount of good fortune comes your way…
Yet you’ll also be facing challenges. In 2010 more so than ever before you need to show that it takes courage to also have the glory. Make it your mission to view each day as the first day of the rest of your life…

Career
Change, opportunity and transformation all conspire to make 2010 one of the more interesting years you’ve had for a while. You may notice you’re involved in more frequent power struggles at work. That’s not because you’re being more difficult in your ability.
Between the end of May and mid-August you will be sorely tempted to make a radical change, especially if something is presented to you out of the blue…
Study and/or travel suddenly become options during the middle part of the year, which could take you by surprise.

Love
If the other areas of your life seem turbulent and prone to sudden change, you’ll be happy to know the opposite is true of your love-life. You’re in a new phase of commitment and reality checking. Much depends on your current status in a relationship, whether you want to be more committed or you’re finally realising it’s no longer working. One thing you can be sure of, you won’t have to do any guesswork – the answer will be crystal clear.
Your best periods for love and romance are during March and August although mid-October to mid-November is your most challenging time. Whatever unravels during this period probably wasn’t making you happy.

Easy New Year’s Recipe: Peppermint Crisp Tart

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

The peppermint crisp tart recipe is apparently a South African tradition.

I never knew that, just ate it when offered :-D .

Since I was looking for something easy and quick to make for New Year’s, I chose this recipe:

Peppermint Tart Recipe:

1 peppermint crisp chocolate

Method
1. Whip up Orley Whip/cream according to instructions on container.
2. Add caramel to bowl and mix
3. Line pie dish with tennis biscuits
4. Cover biscuits with caramel mix and form another layer altenating biscuits and caramel mixture.
5. Place pieces of peppermint crisp chocolate on top or grate the chocolate and refrigerate until set.

2009, My Year in Review

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

2009 Will go down as a great year for me.

I set two clear goals –
1. Complete the Two Oceans Half Marathon
2. Work on my blog regularly and get my first Google Adsense cheque

By April my work for the year was done!

Not actually…but I achieved what I set out to do.

The defining moment of 2009 was with 15 minutes to go during Two Oceans.

I felt like the end was nowhere in sight and some part of me didn’t feel like I would make it.

That’s when the hard headed side of me said a few swear words (I would rather not repeat) . Because no way was I giving into defeat.

That was that. I shifted to a new gear and got home with 7 minutes to spare.

I have seldom been more proud of myself.

However, I kept that never say die attitude in other situations during the year.

I also let a few friendships go – without drama. And I made new friends who made me laugh and vice versa (hopefully).

Two-sided friendships are better than one-sided ones.

Work-wise I had one or two moments I’d rather forget. At the same time I have a colleague who knows how to support me when I over react. (hey, I’m an Aries. We get hot headed sometimes ;-D )

So my working year was less stressful than ever.

No huge family dramas, thank heavens, if you dont count my Mitchell’s Plain aunty’s usual mutterings :-P .

So it’s almost goodbye to a most memorable year.

However, 2010 I suspect will be even better!

WTF is Wrong with our SA Cricket Team

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Looks like just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for our cricket team in this second test match against England at Kingsmead!

From Graeme Smith winning the toss and electing to bat under cloudy Durban skies to bad batting, worse bowling and indifferent fielding for four days.

If it wasn’t for Dale Steyn’s batting, SA’s first innings score would have been even worse.

We could blame the selectors for sticking with Makhaya Ntini even though his days as a test bowler is clearly over. And we should blame them.

But the problem is even more than just one bowler.

It’s the whole freaking inconsistent team.

Last week’s draw at the Wanderers makes this current match situation even worse.

They had a whole day to bowl England out, but with one hour to go started taking wickets, leaving them 1 wicket short of victory.

Now with 4 wickets in hand SA have to bat all day tomorrow.

I wonder if England’s bowlers will start looking as toothless as ours.

More likely we’ll suffer an innings defeat before lunch Wednesday.

Winding Down Too Much?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

My usual routine has pretty much gone down the drain during the holidays. And I’m a routine kind of person.

For instance – in the morning I get out of bed and almost immediately start the day with yoga. (After checking e-mail, Facebook and other online activities, of course.)

Now during the holidays its a whole other story.

I still get up early, but then I move to the couch to check online activities and drink coffee.

It’s a lucky day if I remember yoga!

Not to even mention my favourite online activity (after writing this blog ;-) ). Chasing bargains on Bidorbuys auctions!

Tuesdays are for Crazy Wednesday auctions!, however most times I’m not even home at noon when the auction starts.

Although I did get a heart rate monitor on auction recently.

I’m loving my holiday, but at the same time won’t mind finding a ‘normal’ routine again.
