Wow, what an exciting, disappointing end to the cricket test match between SA and England at Centurion.
I could barely stand to watch the last hour of play and had to walk away from the tv screen a few times.
That is the reason I love and prefer test match cricket above any other form of the game.
Anyway…I was disappointed at the result, but what can you do.
SA had the whole day to take 9 wickets, but they could only take 2 in the morning, until the second new ball arrived very late in the day.
So that was the first test match in the series. Drawn.
Next one is the Boxing Day match starting 26 December.
Of course I’m waiting for the New Year’s test at Newlands. I will attend at least one day, the first one.
Can’t wait!

Last night I was once again shocked by a report on e-tv news.
The mall a few hundred metres from my home had some drama Sunday when a robbery took place.
Apparently a cashier in Checkers was held up, shot and robbed of her till takings.
When the shot was fired, shoppers panicked and ran in all directions.
Metro Police chased the two robbers who shot one officer in the hand, but he escaped in a police vehicle!
After a car chase the robber was shot and arrested.
Soon after the robbery shops in the mall were advised to close their doors.
How scary this must’ve been.
Fortunately I wasn’t in the area yesterday.

Bertha Le Roux, or 7de Laan’s Emma as we know her, is pictured in this week’s You magazine with her family and friends.
Bertha, husband Karel and two year old daughter Kiana will be spending Christmas with her family in Cape Town.
She lost 23 kg since November last year, but says the key is to relay and enjoy, not berate yourself when you overindulge.
Bertha suggests dieters select one Christmas meal to throw caution to the wind.
The more relaxed you are about your weight, the easier it is to maintain.

We’ve been informed by our Medical Aid, Oxygen, that premiums will be increasing next year AGAIN.
Oh, and benefits are decreasing. We will have to co-pay certain medical expenses, like wisdom teeth removal in a hospital, but not out of our Personal Savings Accounts.
Oxygen are also in talks with another (secret for now) medical aid to amalgamate with them.
Looks like it’s not Discovery Health.
So far it’s all bad news.
My premium is going from R1100 to R1300 per month!
Or as they said in correspondence, I can go on a cheaper option and have them dictate my medical options.
It’s not as if other Medical Aid will give a better rate for similar benefits.
They will offer unnecessary non-medical extras that I’m not interested in, but most of the premiums are exactly the same.
What choice do I have but to pay up?
Going to state facilities is out of the question and who knows what the National Health Insurance has in store for us.
It would be so much easier if Medical Aid providers would cut the frills and offer us options that actually cover medical costs.
They can keep their magazines, calendars and other crap and use our money for its intended purpose.

I don’t know why I was shocked at the way E-tv reported on former Minister of Health’s Manto Tshabalala Msimang’s death yesterday.
They had a few minutes of heavy criticism for a woman who had just died.
Yes, the Health Minister was particularly bad and her legacy, especially her HIV/AIDS policies and stance, will not be a good one.
However on the day of her death, could E-tv not have kept their hatchet job until she was at least buried?
History will judge her anyway…a week won’t make us forget.
She was a family person – mother, grandmother – and a doctor though. A freedom fighter.
She probably had friends and people who loved her.
Even the Action Treatment Campaign and the DA (who hardly have anything nice to say) have passed on condolences to her family, choosing not to comment on her policies.
As for Gareth Cliff’s criticism of the former Minister…I enjoy his breakfast show, but his opinion is just that. It has as much weight as yours or mine.
Fortunately I did not tune into 5fm this morning.
E-tv (I don’t watch SABC News) has a broader responsibility as a national news broadcaster.
Sometimes, especially when someone died a few hours before, it’s better to say nothing at all if you dont have anything good to say, E-tv.
