Things got kind of ugly when my colleague called me a feminist the other day in response to me calling him a sexist!
It all started around the end of last year when I mentioned the Sexual Harrassment Act.
He response… “what about the way women dress to work?” This from an educated man.
You might as well have waved a red cloth in front of an angry bull.
“I don’t believe you just said that…” was the polite version of my reply. “…the way a woman dresses blah, blah, blah.”
Last week things again flaired up when he asked if he could ask me a personal question.
He wanted to know if I had plans to be married sometime in the future. “Because,” he said “you are argumentative and opinionated and that doesn’t make for a good marriage.”
I was taken aback, but said that fortunately there are a few men who like me for who I am.
“And..” I said “I don’t argue much with someone I’m in love with.”
After that conversation we were a bit frosty with each other for a few hours.
Obviously not frosty enough because he once again came into my office while I was polishing my desk.
“When you’re done there, please come polish mine,” the fool joked. “It’s a woman’s job.”
Me: “You are so sexist.”
He: “It’s part of my Xhosa culture that men are heads of the household.”
Me again: “That’s why I don’t date Xhosa men!”
By now we were both getting upset again.
“You’re a feminist,” he accussed me.
“Damn right,” I replied.
Again we went to our separate corners, but soon enough we started chatting about other stuff.
Until the next time…

Amazingly another woman has had unprotected sex with President Jacob Zuma, knowing his background.
It blows my mind that anyone can find that man attractive enough to have sex with…to each their own, I guess.
Anyhow…
Irvin Khoza’s 39 year old daughter not only did the deed unprotected with Zuma, she reportedly got herself pregnant.
The child, Zuma’s 20th, was born in October 2009, just four months before his wedding to wife number 5.
Jacob Zuma obviously has no qualms about infecting his wives and girlfriends with a STI, nor does he seem bothered about sleeping with his friends’ daughters.
And no amount of criticism of his womanising ways sticks to the president.
So shouldn’t these women – who mostly are matured, educated, have good jobs and have financial means – take responsibility for getting involved with a total cad?
Everyone in this country know that Zuma is married and without morals, so why do these women still get involved with him?
What do they tell their children about their father when Jacob Zuma moves on to his next conquest?

I read some interesting 7de Laan snippets in the 4 Feb 2010 issue of You magazine.
Firstly Bertha le Roux who plays Emma is 20 weeks pregnant! She is expecting their second child in June.

It will be interesting to see how Bertha’s pregnancy will affect Emma. Will they make her pregnant with Dawid Greeff’s child, make her pick up weight as a response to her romantic drama or try to hide her behind the Eclectic E counter?
The next bit of news has Theo Jantjies (Xander) seen out and about with model Lariza Ferreira. In December he attended Heino Schmidts wedding with Idol joint winnes Sasha Lee Davids’ sister.

No harm in having fun, Theo!

Today wasn’t an ordinary work day for me. Some colleagues and I went on trip to a few museums around Cape Town on a fact finding mission.
First stop was the District 6 Museum in the city centre. Wow, what an amazing place…nothing that like I expected!
The place was filled with positive stories – no self pity or anything one might expect. Just a celebration of life in District 6.

celebrating lang arm dancing
Next we went to the Bo-Kaap Museum. Parking was hard to find in the narrow roads. It was a lot smaller than the District 6 museum and it’s theme was Cape Malay history and culture.

Last but not least we went to Groot Constantia, to see how the former governer of the Cape, Simon van der Stel lived. There was sooooo much to see, but unfortunately we had only a few hours.

Outside Groot Constantia
We did make it to the Orientation house, Manor House and Cloete Cellar.
I would like to go again and spend some more time looking around at my own leisure.
A very good working day, indeed!

Let me start off by saying I don’t blindly worship the ground Graeme Smith walks on. There are actually times I think my 3 year old niece could do a better job captaining the Proteas. But that’s only when things aren’t going as well as I would like.
I’ve always been a Graeme Smith fan though.
Yes, Smith did make some stupid mistakes as a young 22 year old captain. Like taking on the Aussies verbally and then not backing it up.
But he’s also performed on the field. Better than most other Proteas players, according to statistics.
For instance – in every test match Smith has scored 100 or more, SA have either drawn or won. Never have they suffered a loss when Smith scored a century.
Opposing teams knows the value of his wicket.
Seldom have an opposing captain been applauded off the field in Australia. How many of his local detractors had anything to say after that 2008/2009 Australian tour when Smith came home as Captain Courageous?
What I don’t understand is the label ‘arrogant’ that attaches itself to Graeme Smith.
One would hope all our national team members, including the captain have a healthy dose of self-confidence.
In this country any show of self-confidence gets mistaken for arrogance. Who knows why.
Smith has obviously learnt from the mistakes he originally made, because he seldom shoots his mouth off these days.
Also, I’ve heard and seen Smith in interviews and impression I got was that he was well-mannered, friendly and quietly confident. Never ever arrogant.
I just hope Graeme Smith ignores all those critics who come out of the woodworks everytime they smell blood.
While I think it’s time for Mickey Arthur to go, I hope to see a whole lot more of Graeme Smith, as captain, in the years to come.
