My Mitchell’s Plain Aunty is disgusted by Jacob Zuma

This afternoon my mother pitched up at my flat telling me they were headed to Mitchell’s Plain, do I want to go as well.

(Damn security at the gate, why do we even pay them!)

My mom’s ‘asking’ is more like a command than an open ended question with a yes or no answer.

Not that the thought of my aunty’s fancy cake and tea didn’t cross my mind.

I got the usual “watch your mouth when you talk to your aunty…” speech as if I didn’t want world peace and all the rest.

My aunty was happy to see us and had my grandmother’s China tea service on the table with beautiful little cakes and my favourite coconut tart.

We chatted about this and that, gossiped about a cousin who is pregnant for the third time and tried to guess who the dad was this time.

Which led us straight to Jacob Zuma and trouble. Imagine that!

“Sies,” my aunty exclaimed. “that man has the morals of a…of a…wild hog!”

“He is unfit to be president of this God-fearing country.”

I rolled my eyes, but said nothing.

“I knew this would happen when that man became president.”

“He will morally corrupt this country. Polygamy is against the Lord’s word!”

I still said nothing, very much against my nature. Instead I concentrated on the texture of the coconut tart after every bite.

I wanted to give her a break as my Mitchell’s Plain uncle left her a few years ago and is now shacked up with some young 20something in a backyard in Lost City.

But when she said “Helen Zille would…”

I had to say something, so I swallowed my last piece of tart and said, “Polygamy and philandering might be distasteful to you aunty and Helen Zille, but not everyone in this African country shares your view.”

“Which is why Helen Zille didn’t even get close to being president.”

“And anyway, his sleeping around is distasteful to me too,” I said. “But that’s a separate issue from his presidency!”

“Helen Zille said…” she continued as if I hadn’t said one word.

I took another slice of tart, refilled my tea cup and started a conversation with my cousin about life after his matric.

My mom was so proud of me.

Man, men can be such girls!

So I’ve been watching the documentary/reality show Man on Sabc 3 Friday nights at 9.30 to get some ‘insight’ into the mysteries of the male psyche.

If you didn’t already know, Man is about four Cape Town men in their 30s doing the dating scene.

So far we met Kaizer Tsosane, Trevor Gow and Maurice Levin. This week Henri Slier joins the team.

Cape Town, we’ve heard, is paradise for men. About 6 women for every straight guy, or so they say.

But unfortunately for the likes of Maurice who finds it harder than the others to get a date, the pickings are slim.

We Cape Town ladies seem to like our men confident and sexy – like Kaizer.

But maybe it’s because Kaizer actually likes women and doesn’t whine like a teenaged girl (Maurice!)

In one of the guys’ breakfast chats in Friday’s episode, Maurice claimed to have had sex with an ugly girl or two.

Who speaks about women that way and expect to get laid?

And what or who is an ugly girl?

So far I’ve learnt that men in Cape Town love talking about penis sizes, get beauty treatments, talk at length about metrosexuals and alpha males and meet for brunch to talk about their conquest.

Pretty much like we girls do.

7de Laan: Diaan (Paula) is Pregnant!

7de Laan’s Diaan Lawrenson and fiance Jody Abrahams’ pregnancy is featured in next week’s You Magazine.

Diaan is expecting their baby (a girl) in June this year. The same month as Bertha le Roux Wahl (Emma).

What this will mean for Paula, the heavens alone knows!

Was that witch (witi a capital B), San-Mari, foreshadowing a future storyline when she last night bitterly declared Paula to be too selfish to love Altus? And that she would break his heart again?

One can only hope not!

Diaan told You magazine that the 7de Laan producers told her she could take all the time off she needs after her baby is born.

Of course I wish Diaan and Jody well with the rest of the pregnancy and birth.

As for Paula though…we had to wait so long for her to return last year…

HELP! I Think I’m Losing My Mind!

One of my dreams came true this week and now I don’t know what to do with myself.

For the last 3 years or so, I wanted to become more involved with maintaining our website and social media relationships, but all I got was frustrating promises.

Which worked out great because this blog was born…

This week everything changed…with the support of my colleagues.

I was so excited and overwhelmed. I don’t think I stopped smiling. My head hasn’t stopped spinning either.

My workload has increased, I have a heavy study load and my love life is complicated as one would say on Facebook.

So that’s why the saying goes “be careful what you wish for…”?

I’m up for the task ahead though. I just have to get the balance right!

The couple proudly showed off their sweet looking blue-eyed baby girl who was born in the US.  The couple cited the reason being they both have US Green Cards.

They have settled back into life in South Africa as they feel it is currently the right place to raise their daughter.

Congrats to the couple on their gorgeous little one.
