Good heavens! Another birthday! They seem to come around quicker every year.

The fact that I’m posting about this day at all, doesn’t mean I like it. I like getting older, don’t get me wrong. I like being alive and birthdays are part of the deal of living, so I tolerate it.

I think my dislike of birthdays started with my very first birthday. The day before I turned 1 year old, my parents presented me with a brother!

My very first memory is of him and I throwing sand at each other in our backyard. And me getting reprimanded for calling him a ‘pig’. I think I was around three and he two years old.

And that’s pretty much how our relationship has been ever since – but without the sand throwing.

Since then I’ve had two more brothers and a sister, but I don’t think I’ve forgiven my parents for that first birthday gift.

I will spend part of the day grappling with Javascript, contemplate life, set some goals for the year ahead, maybe watch a movie or two, eat some cake …in other words, have a normal day.
