I’m In Love! Or so I’ve Heard!

Rumour has it I have a new man in my life and/or I’m in love.

The news seem to have spread. Gossip Girl would be mighty proud!

Earlier in the week a former colleague who I had not really spoken to in a while, told me she heard about my new man.

“Huh,” I said. “Where?”

She said I told her myself. As if!

I can only guess where and how the rumour started, but apparently former colleagues are also now in on the speculation about my private life.

I’ve had plenty of boyfriends and been in love once or twice, especially in the last 8 years I’ve worked at my current employers, but speculation was never this rife, even though my policy remains the same.

Unfortunately for them, I do not discuss my private life at work. Work is work.

And anyway, my love life is the stuff soap operas are made of. The boring kind of soapies, mind you.

There’s usually a lot of breaking up and making up. And long conversations about making and breaking up. I certainly don’t want to have to explain why boyfriend number 101 is no longer part of my life.

And then a week or two later he’s back again.

I’ve had to put up with friends and family alike accusingly asking me what I had done to the ‘poor guy’ once the time came for us to move on with our lives – apart.

It’s enough having to live with the expectations of people who are close to me. To have to add colleagues to that list is just tiresome.

So the rumour remains just that – unconfirmed.

GiGi Wins Survivor Santa Carolina

Though Ashley Hayden received the most public votes, GiGI won the jury vote 6-2 in SA Survivor Santa Carolina.

GiGi, an exotic dancer, won R500 000 for herself and R500 000 for her charity Hospice.

The jury in typical Survivor fashion, were bitter that they were outplayed, outwitted and outlasted by a better player.

I never get the moral high ground these Survivor jury members think they are on, just because they were voted off.

Geewhiz, how did they not reward someone who won most of the immunity challenges?

Although Ashley probably made a mistake by not laying low a bit more and playing nice by taking GiGi to jury.

Anyway, it’s done and dusted. The best SA Survivor season is over, leaving GiGi as the the sole survivor.

Congrats to GiGi on her win! She hung in there and got to the final two.

I can’t wait for June when we get US Survivor.

I had my Performance Appraisal Today

After weeks of postponements, I finally had my performance appraisal today.

I sort of looked forward to it, but it turned out the same as usual, going through my job duties, key performance areas, goals, aspirations blah blah blah.

At least its over for the next 6 months!

There was a slight difference this time though.

In nearly 8 years this was probably the first appraisal that was about me also and not only my job.

In the 90 minutes or so that I sat there, I realised that in the last year a lot has changed.

Part of my job changed for sure.

But more than that, I changed. More so in the last 4 months than anything else.

It has something to do with starting my studies, I think.

Although there’s been speculation that I might be in love.

There was a moment today (which I won’t recount) when I held my poise when a year ago I would have been flustered.

Afterwards I had a one of those rare moments of clarity. Just a flash.

I realised that today was a game changer. If not with my job itself, most certainly in other aspects of my life.

I was reminded of the Wizard of Oz telling the cowardly lion about always having had the courage inside him.

What is Chris Edwards Doing on 7de Laan?

So there was Chris Edwards, looking all un-Chris Edwards like, in the Deli on 7de Laan last week.

We got a quick intro through a conversation with Neville Meintjies. His new name is Wesley and he is in the media game.

Could he turn into a rival for Neville and Tim?

He had a menacing glint in his eye. Or was I imaging that?

Its good to see Eckard Rabe in action so soon after Egoli ended. And his name is in the closing credits with the main cast.

So he’ll be around for a while.

Other 7de Laan news :

Paula is looking rather pretty now that her portrayer Diaan Lawrenson is pregnant. Her very slightly fuller face suits her. And her hair is pretty as well.

As for Hotlips and Neef Gert…I love that they’re back, wreaking havoc.

As usual San-Mari just works my last nerve. When will that girl get a clue? She’s rivalling Gita on the nastiness scale.

I’m looking forward to see where Chris Edwards…uhm Wesley’s character will fit in.

10 Awesome Things Challenge

Last week’s Women24′s newsletter had the 10 awesome things challenge which they got somewhere else…

I’m taking up the challenge, especially after reading an article in the May issue of Shape Magazine, 128 things to make you happy.

My top 10 awesome things that makes me happy:

1. Sunday lunches with my family. It doesn’t happen as frequently as before, but when it does it’s noisy and fun. Just like when we were children. Only now my nieces and nephew are part of the mix, making it even better. What did we do before they were born?

2. Having my 2nd youngest niece fall asleep in my arms. Oh and when she says “Abby, put on Marmie (Barney).” And when she calls my sister mama and everyone else mommy – my sis hates that ;-) .

3. When my 12 year old niece bends down to hug me. She enjoys showing how much taller than me she is. Little bugger. Actually hugs from all the nieces and nephew. And giggles from my 5 year old niece in Australia, because she’s going to marry her 8 year old neighbour.

4. Food! That explosion in my mouth when I taste something delicious like watermelon or other fresh fruit or yoghurt. Or eating Lays chips or winegums or peanut brittle.

5. Realising there’s someone out there who sees me the way I would like to be seen. Although some days I wonder what he sees.

6. Exercise! My body surprises me all the time with its resilience. I love yoga and running.

7. This blog and the people who actually reads it. I’m still surprised and blown away by the fact that anyone would read my stuff. I love writing this blog though.

8. My job when I realise that the work I do makes a difference. The last two weeks I was reminded how much fun working hard can be.

9. Learning something new. Having learnt HTML a few years ago was mind blowing – and that was just the start. Now its Javascript and C++ . My brain hurts, but when I ‘get it’ oh what bliss.

10. Shopping for jerseys this winter! OMW I love this winter’s knits. I love knitting too, but the ones in the shops are amazingly cute.
