Good heavens! Our Stormers have made it to the Super 14 final! Please someone, pinch me so I can know this isn’t a dream.

Had anyone told me at the the beginning of the season that the Stormers would reach the Super14 final, I would have asked them what they were drinking, smoking or both.
And had anyone told me that the final would be against the Bulls at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, I would have seriously wondered about their mental health!
But here we are…
The Stormers beat the Waratahs 25-6 at Newlands in the semi-final on Saturday, thanks in large to Peter Grant’s boot!
And now we’ll have the Bulls against the Stormers in the Super 14 Final on Saturday.
I can’t say I wouldn’t have prefered the final to be Stormers vs Crusaders at Newlands (loyalty to South African teams be damned!), but I’ll take anything at this stage.
Well done to the Stormers and good luck on Saturday.

Last week was an uneven week for me. It started with exams on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday I had a few interesting moments. One when I finished writing my first paper and realised that I was the only female in the IT row. I had one of those WTF moments.
I wondered what I was actually doing there. Unusual for me, as I’m pretty much always going against the grain. And don’t really mind it.
(Where are the female IT students?? Maybe they’re not doing UNISA but doing universities and universities of technology. Hopefully!)
The second one I had on my walk home. I had one of those surreal moments when the sun was nearly behind Table Mountain and the light was a bit gloomy. The road in front of me and the mountain at the end of it looked like part of a dream. I felt so content and happy for no real reason.
Wednesday was back to work. It was sort of nice to be missed, but mostly I didn’t really care too much.
It’s hard to know when people are being genuine, especially after the office gossip I was subjected to recently. Funny enough a colleague walked into my office and said she had no one to gossip with when I was away. Apparently everyone else declared their working space a gossip free zone.
I’m not so sure about that.
I did however tell her that my office is a gossip free zone. This is going to be hard! Because I’ve always been in the loop about office gossip. But after being the target of untrue gossip, I am trying to not subject anyone else to such unfair behaviour.
Thursday and Friday went by in a sort of blur. Although we did have a very handsome young man come make mini educational videos which will feature on the internet soon. That was sort of nerve wracking for some of my colleagues who had to appear in the videos.
Studying didn’t exactly go smoothly this week as I had a few issues to take care of…
Which led to me doing something stupid!!! Really stupid!!
Like messaging an ex-boyfriend on Facebook!
Why didn’t I just study?

I’m all for freedom of speech. And I have no religious affiliation. In fact I don’t care much about religion other than the fact that it is important to some people I love and care about. Regardless, I would defend anyone’s right to practice their religion, even if I don’t understand it.
On the other hand, I’ve pretty much always enjoyed Zapiro’s cartoons. Bring on Jacob Zuma – with or without the showerhead. Malema is fair game as is anyone else in politics and public life.
And if there were news about intolerant South African Muslims doing the rounds lately, I would even have been able to grasp what Zapiro was trying to say.
But out of the blue we get this very vague cartoon.
Was it done to intentionally offend Muslims or is Jonathan Shapiro bored of not being in the news headlines? Because I’ve tried and tried and I just can’t see the relevance of this cartoon.
Had the Council for of Muslim Theologians not applied (unsuccesfully) for a court interdict trying to block the Mail and Guardian from going to print, I would not have had any idea what this cartoon was all about.
(Mind you, the Council for Muslim Theologians trying to get the cartoon banned is a whole other story which I definitely do not support. )
Sometimes all you can do is shake your head at the craziness.
PS I just read that the cartoon was in answer to a Facebook campaign called “Everybody draw Mohammed Day” and Pakistan banning Facebook and other websites in response.
My opinion hasn’t changed at all though. In fact I’m even more flabbergasted that Zapiro brought out this cartoon in answer to a call from a Facebook page. HUH?
Why would Zapiro go out of his way to cause unnecessary offense. Had South Africa banned a Facebook page, I would be front and centre protesting.
However, I still don’t get this latest cartoon business with Zapiro. Should he be creating news or commenting on current affairs or whatever cartoonists comment on?
Seems to me intentionally created news this time…full well knowing there would be a reaction.

A few websites are reporting that Amor has asked (to put it politely), her husband Joost van der Westhuizen to move out of their house.
For a while at least.

Looks like Amor is human after all. Because most women, would have kicked their cheating partners out a long time ago. Especially since it wasn’t just the cheating.
There is an entire book of lies that Joost told to the public, never mind his wife and Amor was put in the position where she had to defend him! All the while believing his lies.
The sex tape was embarassing. Imagine having to deal with the entire family and the whole country having access to your partner’s underhanded business on the internet. And have the media hound you for weeks?
Most of us would not even have bothered to put up appearances. Just kicked the bugger out.
Personally, I don’t know how anyone could ever trust a man like Joost again.

Good luck to the Stormers for their semi-final match against the Waratahs on Saturday evening!

I really didn’t think they would get there, judging on their opening match against the Lions at Ellis Park earlier in the season. However, they have surprised me.
Not only by the fact that they actually reached the semis but because they played damn good rugby (a lot of the time) to get there.
Obviously fighting so hard to get the services of Jacque Fourie payed off and Bryan Habana has pretty much also earned his salary through and through.
There was some criticism when the two were brought to Stormers country…but that has long ago been put to rest.
All that’s left is to wish the Stormers well for the game.
Match starts at 7.10pm on Saturday.
