Sometimes I don’t understand people…

I try, I really do. But sometimes I just don’t ‘get’ people.

Maybe because it’s my nature to be direct. Some people consider it one of my strengths and others don’t like it. But that’s besides the point.

Even if I tried, I could never hide how I feel about a situation.

Instead of making as if I’m okay with the fact that people – who I considered work friends – had gossiped and spread rumours about me, I decided to instead just focus on the work aspect.

Because I know I will not get away with pretending to like what they did – and are in all likelihood still doing.

So I’ve been keeping my professional distance, yet being responsive enough to discuss general things. Like the weather, the photocopy machine, the lavender garden, etc. As well as work related conversations.

I’ve even gone as far as to cut all conversations of a personal nature short and not getting into group discussions at the coffee table.

To my bewilderment the very colleagues who started the trouble at work have been carrying on as if nothing happened.

Telling me about their families and what they’ve cooked for dinner, etc.

But here’s the thing. I don’t want to hear it, because I don’t care. And it’s not as if I respond to them beyond an “Oh okay”.

What I don’t ‘get’ is how people can be so duplicitous. Nice to my face and nasty behind my back.

And it doesn’t only apply to gossip and stuff.

If I don’t like something work-related, I will say so. Apparently not everyone does that. Some people will say something before a meeting, during a meeting and then afterwards and none of it will be consistent.

I’ve had a colleague outright lie about what was said in a meeting. When both of us heard the same thing.

How is possible to do that?

Why not just say you think and deal with the consequences?

As I’ve am getting older, I realise that I really don’t need everyone to like me. I’d much prefer they be honest with me.

Vodacom Advert: Daddy Cool

MTN owned all cellphone adverts before and during the Soccer World Cup.  So it seemed like Vodacom, Virgin Mobile and CellC took a break,

Now however, Vodacom hit back with their Daddy Cool advert that makes absolutely no sense to me at all.  But it’s so much fun that I always look up from whatever I’m doing when the advert comes on tv.

Vodacom seldom fail where their marketing campaigns are concerned – their service is another story.

And this one is another one that works.  If you consider that they’ve been quiet of late.

Zille and De Lille Engaged?

Monday, July 26th, 2010
Twitt

I shudder at the thought! But that’s how the media are reporting the probable alliance between Independent Democrats (in effect Patricia de Lille) and the Democratic Alliance (led by Helen Zille).

Why this is news is beyond me. Far beyond me.

Because Patricia de Lille has pretty much been in an alliance with the DA for a long time – at least 10 years - especially in the Western Cape. Not that the Independent Democrats have much support outside Mitchells Plain anymore, much less the Western Cape.

I don’t see what power the ID is negotiating with, since they don’t have any.

So why the so called engagement and not a straight marriage?

Apparently because the Independent Democrats aka Patricia de Lille isn’t yet sure that her (their) economic policies are in line with that of the Democratic Alliance’s.

Whatever!

The ID has absolutely no  leg to stand on.  Not in the long term, because their appeal is to a very limited demographic and the DA has already started reaching that democratic.

The biggest disappointment for me is the fact that Patricia de Lille and other black politicians/political parties have not been able to provide an opposition to the ANC.

Which means someone like me who would NEVER vote DA or for any alliance with the DA have no choice, other than again voting ANC or not voting at all.

The Contented Blogger

So things have been on a relatively even keel lately. Home life is as content as can be and work is…well work.

I’ve not even used my earphones all that much at the office in the last week.

However…

Being content and even happy makes for rather slim pickings on the blogging front. Who wants to read about my lovely visits to the lavender garden every day. Or about my relaxing baths or even about the birds humming outside my bedroom window every morning.

Once in a while is okay. But every day?

While I enjoy being in that good space, I yawn just thinking about writing about it.

I’ve even back-burnered my colleagues to unimportant in the grand scheme of things in my life. Other than being people I have to work with daily.

Did I mention I passed three of my four UNISA subjects? I decided to just focus on the three I passed instead of freaking out about the other one.

Some irritations have started showing through though. So this contented blogger might have a high horse or two to saddle soon.

For example…

Helen Zille and Patricia de Lille – need I say more? Regular readers of this blog know my opinion on those two.

Jacob Zuma and his nepotism that continues unabated…

The new Information Act law…

Fairlady Magazine’s August issue so disappointed me with their fashion pages! Pretty much the only reason I usually buy the magazine. That and the crossword puzzles.

You magazine and their international celebrity covers! Even in the aftermath of the most locally is lekker month and a half.

The Springboks!

But then this morning I received an email from UNISA giving me an extension on an assignment, so even that irritation has somewhat dissipated.
