Hello again, world…
Saturday, July 9th, 2011So I was thinking this morning that I really should blog. Not unusual, as I that’s how I commonly start my day.
About what, I wondered. Because life is pretty calm at the moment. No need for drama-queen like tantrums and posts. And I think I covered all the latest diets.
I almost miss those days of pure drama! NOT!
This last week is a case in point. Our offices were technically closed for the week, since it is school holidays and we are in the education sector.
However, a few of us all but begged to go in to finish some work. And it was pure heaven! I even cleared my desk! A minor miracle!
But how can I blog about a clean desk? Who would want to read about that? Come to think about it, it still surprises me that anyone reads this stuff.
Google says you do, so who am I to argue?
Oh, I had to go to a sector meeting on Thursday and wasn’t exactly jumping for joy. The colleague I went with chose to a table right in the front, centre, of the room. So I couldn’t even do anything else but listen to the Powerpoint presentations.
Oh how I hate Powerpoints!
But even that joyless occasion changed just before lunch. Things got interesting.
Then lunch turned out to be delicious and an hour later I was home.
Wait, wait! I just thought of something sort of dramatic. I bought my first pair of skinny jeans!
Yes! You’ve read right. Skinny jeans.
At first I thought I was too skinny for skinny jeans, but apparently not. And I tucked it into my calf-length boots.
Very much not me. But it worked. I felt comfortable and got some compliments. Although someone said I looked neat. As in not untidy. What???
I took the compliment in the spirit it was intended though.
My UNISA results came out last week and I passed my exams so that had me smiling for an entire day!
I also read two novels and knitted lots of stuff.
But its back to the grind stone soon. Work will be back to normal and 2nd semester has started and of course Melbourne awaits at the end of the year.
As for love…it’s still very much on the agenda.
Colour TV
Friday, July 8th, 2011One or two family members mentioned Colour tv on Facebook. And a friend SMSed me about the new SABC 2 programme.
So I tuned into SABC tonight at 7.30pm, the space vacated by that annoying Noot vir Noot, to see what it was about.
The start wasn’t very promising. Clint Brink and Kim Cloete, laying on the Cape Flats accent on far too thick in their ‘news bulletin’. We’ve heard them talk an Scandal and Isidingo and they don’t sound like that!
Not that I was expecting to like Colour tv. I don’t exactly like my fellow coloureds very much. And I’m sure Colour tv won’t be delving into the politics of being coloured in the Western Cape, especially.
Be that as it may, I warmed up to the format as the hour progressed. Especially when the soapie started. What can I say, I like soaps
Actually what I liked more, was the authentic sounding voices. It was funny and dramatic. Just like coloureds are supposed to be!
Tyrone, the 5Fm guy was there, as well as Quanita Adams and Terrence Bridget, amongst others. A real who’s who of coloureds.
I have never felt the need to see my ethnic group represented on tv, in quite the way some coloureds do though.
Because I don’t identify very closely with any particular group of people. Other than being Capetonian and South African. In a very broad sense, mind you.
But funny is funny. And Colour tv had me smiling in parts, which more than I can say for most South African comedies.
